OBITUARY Plays Benefit Concert For Victims Of Ecuador Club Fire
April 30, 2008OBITUARY frontman John Tardy has issued the following update:
"14 flights, 11 countries and eight shows in 12 days!!! What a run that was. Four great shows in Brasil, packed house in Chile and almost 2,000 fans in a bullfighting ring in Venezuela! Everything was going great when we got word that the final show in Ecuador was canceled. The club we were scheduled to play caught fire and tragically killed 17 people inside, one week before we were to play there. When you play places like this all the time and then hear about things like this it really makes you think! We were then asked to play a benefit concert where the proceeds would go to the families of the victims. When we said we would do it I don't think we new what we were in for. First, there was almost 20,000 fans that showed up and we were the headlining band. Then, when they started to bring in survivors, friends and family members of the deceased into our backstage, it got real sad very fast. This was an entire community that came together and to be part of it was something I will never forget."
